Have Your Heating Needs Changed?
Did you know that changes in your life and at your home can affect your fuel usage?
It’s true! For instance, an increase in household members can lead to higher fuel use due to increased hot water usage, laundry, and other activities. Spending more time at home, especially in colder weather, increases the demand for heating and hot water, leading to higher fuel consumption. In addition, major life events could affect heating needs (see below).
So, have your heating needs changed? Perhaps one or more of these situations is relevant to your home:
-
You are planning to move this winter
-
You or a family member recently retired
-
You are working from home (even a few days a week)
-
You have made major renovations to your property
-
You have family members or tenants moving in or out
-
An elderly or ill person resides with you
-
You have recently welcomed a newborn into your home (congratulations!)
By the way … did you know that hosting a large Thanksgiving or holiday party can affect your home heating fuel use, too?
Large holiday parties can significantly affect your fuel usage because of:
-
Increased body heat: Each extra guest in your home adds to the internal heat load. While this can provide some warmth, it is not a replacement for your heating system and often leads to the system needing to work harder to regulate the temperature effectively.
-
More appliance use: Parties involve more cooking, which uses ovens, stovetops, and other appliances that generate heat. Additionally, you may use more lighting and sound systems, all of which consume energy that can lead to your home’s overall energy demand increasing.
-
Open doors and windows: More people entering and leaving the home means more opportunities for warm air to escape and cold air to enter through doors and windows.
If any of these situations apply to you, it means your heating needs have changed, and you should give Haab Energy a call at 610-688-6500. We will adjust your delivery schedule so that everyone is as cozy and comfortable as possible this heating season.
